Chair and CEO Steve Demetriou spoke to Bloomberg recently about our transformation journey, the launch of our new brand and our planned name change to Jacobs Solutions Inc. He discussed our focus on the trends and challenges around climate change, resiliency, urbanization and the addition of key capability through acquisitions like KeyW. Steve also shared more on the latest developments on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) chemical contamination, and how Jacobs is positioned to help address the clean-up effort with the growing need for treatment and remedial solutions.
PFAS is a group of oil and water-resistant synthetic chemicals that have been in use since the 1940s. They have been used extensively in aqueous film‑forming foams to extinguish flammable liquid fires; surface coatings and protective formulations for paper and cardboard packaging products; stain, wrinkle - and water-resistant and repellent fabrics; non-stick products, polishes, waxes, paints and cleaning products; as well as industrial surfactants, emulsifiers, wetting agents, additives and coatings.
For more than a decade, our water and environmental technologists have been supporting municipal, federal and commercial clients with PFAS assessment and treatment around the globe. Jacobs’ unique ability to shape the industry for PFAS solutions is drawn from our multidisciplinary expertise in the environmental, water, wastewater, solid waste, aviation and infrastructure sectors. We challenge today and reinvent tomorrow by integrating both proven and leading-edge detection and treatment technologies to address PFAS chemicals transported in drinking water, groundwater, surface water, wastewater, leachate and soil.
