Morocco Project Team Celebrates Significant Safety Achievement

Our JESA team in Morocco recently celebrated completing more than 7.2 million safe work hours (and counting). JESA is our joint venture with Morocco’s Office Cherifien de Phosphate (OCP)—the world’s leading phosphate exporter.

This accomplishment recognises the team’s commitment to safety after they received Jacobs’ prestigious Significant Milestone Award for achieving six million safe work hours last year at the Jorf Lasfar Complex in Morocco.

The Significant Milestone Award is one of five global awards in our BeyondZero® Recognition Awards Program. The Milestone is set by the project team at project start up and aligns with the actions to address the risk assessment for the safe delivery of the project.

A key initiative was to improve risk and hazard recognition to protect all teammates. JESA Chemicals Program Director, Abdelaziz Moustawi, attributes the success to training, continuous communication, active management and supervision presence on site to help reinforce Jacobs’ BeyondZero safety culture.

Bob Pragada, Jacobs’ President of Industrial / Buildings & Infrastructure, recently visited Morocco commending the team for their hard work.

Following a presentation and celebration, Pragada toured the complex that includes four plants with a capacity to produce one million tons of fertilizer each. JESA is responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction management services on site.

“We are making great progress in Morocco,” said Pragada. “I’m pleased our partnership with OCP has helped increase Morocco’s fertilizer production significantly, and also that we’re working safe and taking care of each other.”
