The National Air and Space Museum's One World Connected exhibit will tell the story of how flight fostered two momentous changes in everyday life: the ease in making connections across vast distances and a new perspective of Earth as humanity’s home. Below are some stories from Jacobs that also highlight the connections and digital solutions we are making around the world.
Stories that capture our partnerships and innovative impact for a more connected, sustainable world
November 11th is one of the most significant calendar dates of the year for Jacobs’ veteran population. Many know it as “Veterans Day”, “Armistice Day” or “Remembrance Day” depending on their location, but for us the sentiment remains the same: it’s a day to honor military veterans, living and dead, who have served their countries and to reaffirm our commitment to being the employer of choice for veterans across the world.
Central to this year’s observance is VetNet, our employee network for current or formal military members and their families. With more than 1,000 members around the world, Vetnet provides a range of services to Jacobs employees including mentoring, coaching and networking opportunities, familial support during active and hardship deployments and, in partnership with our Positive Mental Health Champions program, veteran-led emotional support and access to counselling.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has stopped our VetNet chapters from taking part in in-person events, our team in Arlington, VA finished in first place nationally for distance in the recent 16th Annual Team River Runner Biathlon and fundraiser. Held virtually this year, 13 Jacobs’ teammates participated in the biathlon – most ran or walked and a few biked – for a total of 271 miles and $642 raised for non-profit organization, Team River Runner.
Founded in 2004 at the Walter Reed Medical Center, Team River Runner believes that every wounded and disabled veteran deserves the opportunity to embrace new challenges, invoke leadership and promote camaraderie. The non-profit organization provides an outlet to fulfill these beliefs, inviting wounded and disabled war veterans and their families to participate in adaptive paddling programs.
VetNet also partners with our recruiting teams across the world to ensure that Jacobs is recruiting the “best of the best” in veteran talent, working with organizations like Hire Heroes USA, a nonprofit that empowers service members, veterans and their spouses to succeed in the civilian workforce.
With this in mind, we’re excited to announce that Jacobs has been named as one of Hire Heroes USA’s Top 5 employers for the third quarter of 2020, joining companies like Amazon as a leader in veteran employers.
We were also recently named as one of Forbes Best Employers for Veterans, a shortlist based on an independent survey of 5,000 U.S. veterans who were asked to rate their employers on a variety of general and veteran-specific topics.
We’re proud of our incredible veterans around the globe – and we hope you will join us today in taking a moment to reflect on the incredible contribution and sacrifices that military veterans have made over the years.
