Jacobs Appointed to Christchurch Land Drainage Recovery Programme

PASADENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) announced today that it was appointed to a three year position on the Land Drainage Recovery Programme (LDRP) for Christchurch City Council in New Zealand.

Company officials did not disclose a contract value, but noted that under the terms of the appointment, Jacobs is participating on the LDRP for three years.

The LDRP comprises 52 projects that investigate the impacts of prior earthquakes and assist with flood response planning. The projects are split into six categories, with the Council establishing groups of 3-5 consultants for each category. Jacobs is the only firm selected as a consultant in all six categories.

Christchurch has experienced significant flooding in recent years that has been exacerbated by prior earthquake damage. The goal of the LDRP is to understand the effects these earthquakes have had on the area’s land drainage network of rivers, streams, overland flow paths and major structures; and to identify options for repair or adaptation to address flood hazards.

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Michael Shirley stated, “Jacobs is very pleased to extend our close relationship with Christchurch City Council that was established through SKM, by becoming a member of the LDRP. We plan to leverage our extensive global experience and broad capabilities in flood management, geotechnical engineering and related disciplines to help respond to the needs of the people of Christchurch.”

As a low-lying city prone to flooding during times of heavy rain, Christchurch is in the process of recovering from widespread damage resulting from a major earthquake event in 2011. The area is experiencing a period of high rainfall not seen since the 1970s; early in 2014, Christchurch suffered three significant floods within one month.

Jacobs is one of the world’s largest and most diverse providers of technical professional and construction services.
