Q&A with Tanya Raut Jacobs Junior Data Analyst

At Jacobs, we operate at the forefront – helping our clients solve some of the world's biggest challenges with solutions that will shape generations and communities to come.

In 2024, we're showcasing how our people deliver on our strategy by embedding a digital-first way of thinking across Jacobs.

We connected with Junior Data Analyst Tanya Raut to learn about her role, how she got into the field and what she likes about working at Jacobs.

What does it mean to be a data analyst?

As a data analyst, my role is centered around problem-solving. I apply my technical expertise to address complex challenges, support teams with timely data delivery and streamline report scheduling. This enhances organizational efficiency, informs decision-making and reduces repetitive tasks through efficient use of technology – and it’s all done in just a few clicks!

How did you get into this field?

My journey began in IT-Automation. After several months in that role, an opportunity arose within the Data and Digital Solutions team. They recognized my interest in tackling challenges and my affinity for low-code solutions; doing the most with the minimum amount of coding is always fascinating! The experience I already had enabled me to learn to use other tools and get more involved in data analysis.

How do you stay current in this area?

Staying updated is crucial in the tech industry. I like to regularly read and engage with articles that discuss emerging skills and trends. I also love networking with peers, which always provides valuable insights and knowledge sharing.

What do you like about working at Jacobs?

I like how everyone is so passionate about helping each other. If I ever get stuck somewhere – whether the issue is technical or something different – all the help and support I need is just one message away. I also love the work-life balance; I used to think that this was impossible to achieve, but at Jacobs I’ve learned that I can upskill and have ample time for my hobbies.

What do you want to learn next?

After some time working on low-code platforms, I’m keen to try something different that’s a bit more technically challenging, like learning new programming languages. I’m at an intermediate level with Python just now but would love to be an expert in it and maybe even try some front-end programming languages.
