Responding to UKWIR’s call to deliver collaborative research to answer one of the 12 Big Questions, namely how to maximize recovery of useful resources and achieve zero waste by 2050, Jacobs worked with Brunel University London and Allied Waters, to provide a vision and path forward for the water sector’s circular economy journey.

What’s at the End of the Tunnel? A Cleaner Potomac River, That’s What

An innovative tunnel system and the largest infrastructure project in the City of Alexandria, Virginia’s history has its first shovel in the ground. On September 30, 2021, officials from Alexandria Renew Enterprises (AlexRenew), Alexandria’s regional wastewater authority, and City officials gathered on the banks of the Potomac River at the future location of the Outfall 001 drop shaft and diversion structures to celebrate the beginnings of a construction project that was envisioned when AlexRenew assumed ownership of the City’s combined sewer outfalls in 2018. The event included a groundbreaking ceremony, a performance from The City of Alexandria Pipes and Drum, and a formal announcement by the Alexandria town crier.

From Green to Gold - Brisbane Bus Rapid Transit Ready for Brisbane 2032

In July 2021, the city of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia was officially elected as the Host City of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, marking the Games’ return to Australia 32 years after the 2000 Sydney Games. Everyone is understandably excited, but no one more than Jacobs Project Manager Simon Jones. Why? Because Simon and his team have spent the past five years guiding Brisbane Metro to finding solutions to their bus network congestion issues, and the new, improved bus system will showcase cutting-edge, green transit solutions on the world stage. Once completed, Brisbane Metro will deliver new and improved infrastructure and a designed Brisbane Metro and bus network that will provide more travel options with easy links between bus and train services for Brisbane.

Jacobs has supported Anglian Water and United Utilities with four of the nine winning submissions in the first Water Breakthrough Challenge innovation competition from the Water Services Regulation Authority for England and Wales, Ofwat.
