Space Photography Provides Unique Perspective into Endangered Bird Migratory Pathways

From NASA’s manned spaceflight programs over 50 years ago, to current International Space Station (ISS) missions, the Earth Science and Remote Sensing (ESRS) group at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) assists scientists around the world facilitating photography requests of Earth taken by astronauts from the space station. Supported by Jacobs/Johnson Space Center Engineering, Technology and Science (JETS) contract contract employees, the ESRS group works with astronauts to produce photography from some 240 miles overhead, which can include images that help aid disaster response efforts, document changes to Earth’s surface over time, and support science, research and conservation in collaboration with the Avian Migration Aerial Surface Space (AMASS) project.

Michele Holland, PE, PMP, is the Federal Civilian Agencies Portfolio Operations Director. A graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Structural Engineering, Michele began her career designing large infrastructure and facility projects in the Washington D.C. area before moving overseas to support bridge and infrastructure projects in Gurgaon, India and then on to deliver program management support in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Michele joined Jacobs in 2011 as a Project Manager in the Arlington, Virginia office. She has since moved to Raleigh, North Carolina where she is on a never-ending quest to find the best craft beer and BBQ in the state.

Jacobs was awarded a new U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Kansas City District Architecture and Engineering (AE) contract to support the planning, design and construction of facilities and infrastructure in service of the Air Force's B-21 mission. The Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC) supports AE requirements primarily at Ellsworth Air Force Base (AFB), South Dakota, Dyess AFB, Texas, Whiteman AFB, Missouri, and other locations as the Air Force determines support for the B-21 program.
