Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
Learn how Jacobs is partnering with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to create a sustainable and enhanced passenger experience.
The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is known for its celebrity sightings and VIP experiences. Through their partnership Jacobs and LAWA work together to make every passenger feel like a superstar.
Projects and programs transforming LAX
Since 2017, Jacobs has worked alongside LAWA to provide program management & construction management (PM/CM) services on airport modernization programs such as the Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP) as well as other initiatives that are a part of LAWA’s Phase I Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The airport’s CIP is multi-billion-dollar capital improvement effort that is modernizing terminals, enriching guest experiences, creating a safer airfield, relieving congestion and enhancing LAX's status as a world-class airport.
We have also contributed to projects such as the Terminal Development and Improvement Program (TDIP), Airfield Development Program (ADP), Facility Maintenance Program (FMP), Midfield Satellite Concourse (MSC) and Security & Technology Enhancement Program (STEP).
Jacobs has multiple teams and individuals deployed to LAX to provide a wide array of services, including:
- Planning, project development, construction, design management.
- Construction logistics and impact analysis.
- Staff training and development.
- Change management.
- Environmental reporting.
- Public-private-partnership(P3) procurement support.
These services help Jacobs significantly improve this busy airport, transforming transportation at LAX and in Los Angeles.
“Jacobs has been a long-time collaborator with Los Angeles World Airports in the advancement of essential Capital Improvement Program Phase I projects. Our staff has been deployed to almost every department of LAWA and in each of their development programs, and we take pride in our contribution to this partnership. Working together with LAWA, we remain committed to facilitating the continued progress of their world-class facilities.”
Planes, trains and automobiles
Throughout the LAMP and CIP, Jacobs delivered multiple large-scale projects for LAX. One of those is the Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility.
The facility will centralize rental car operations into one location that makes renting a car at the airport more convenient, served by a direct connection to and from the Central Terminal Area by the future Automated People Mover (APM) train. It features 18,000 parking stalls with 6,600 ready/return spaces, 10,000 vehicle storage spaces and 1,100 rental car employee spaces. A quick-turn around facility that is a part of the ConRAC allows for fueling, washing and light maintenance of rental car vehicles.
At LAX, projects like the ConRAC decrease traffic congestion, enhance the traveler experience, free up critical curbside loading areas and reduce environmental impacts on the surrounding community.
“Building on our long aviation history, Jacobs will continue collaborating with LAWA to deliver infrastructure improvements that enrich travel experiences worldwide and lay the groundwork for a more connected, sustainable future. Our teammates work closely with LAWA’s planning and development departments to support the success of projects at LAX, including the world's largest rental car facility. We look forward to continued collaborations with LAWA ahead of world events taking place in LA in the years ahead.”
Lights, camera, action
In 2024, LAWA selected Jacobs as one of 15 lead consultants to provide on-call, task order-based, professional services through a Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC). The work will support initiatives relating to LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program and modernizations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys Airport (VNY).
