Giving and Volunteering at Jacobs – The Collectively℠ Program
The Collectively program brings our purpose to life by enabling our people to truly live our company values, so we can push the limits of what’s possible to impact the communities in which we live and serve.
Through our partnership with Benevity, a world leader in online workplace giving and volunteering, our people support charities around the globe through payroll giving, paid volunteering efforts, matching campaigns and company donations.
Giving and volunteering activities at Jacobs
-
Employee matching
We match employee donations 1:1 to over two million eligible charities on Collectively up to a specified user cap each year. We also lead a range of campaigns throughout the year cross-cutting key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and Jacobs’ company values and priorities. Our cumulative impact since 2020 is $10.9 million and counting!
-
Volunteering
We support our people to volunteer on company time to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) opportunities. We also offer volunteer rewards for each hour an employee volunteers towards any eligible cause, up to a specified user cap per year.
-
Global Collectively Ambassador Network
We have 175+ employee volunteers championing the use of Collectively throughout the company. They foster a culture that connects Jacobs’ colleagues to their passions, while upholding our approach to sustainability. The network drives engagement and puts words into actions through development and promotion of giving and volunteering opportunities.
Focus areas
Our giving and volunteering strategy targets four key focus areas, aligning with many of the UN SDGs and Jacobs’ company values and priorities.
-
Inclusion & diversity
We prioritize advancing equal opportunities for all by creating an environment where everyone can thrive and belong. By promoting programs and volunteer opportunities in alignment with Jacobs' Action Plan for Advancing Justice & Equality our people are enabled to contribute to structural change in the broader society. We aim to donate $10 million by 2025 in support of Black educational, professional development and scholarship opportunities.
-
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) education
At Jacobs, STEAM and sustainability are at the heart of our business. We have developed and are continuing to deliver a global STEAM education and engagement program that engages employees and students around the world. Our aim is to empower and enable our employees to deliver 50,000 hours of STEAM volunteering by 2025.
-
Health & wellbeing
We are focused on making our communities safer, healthier and advocating for positive mental health. There is a strong alignment with BeyondZero® – Jacobs’ approach to health, safety and holistic wellbeing. We aim to improve the mental health and wellbeing in the communities where we live and work by taking positive action through employee engagement in community missions through Collectively.

STEAM Education: Future-Proofing Our Youth
The ever-increasing pace and impact of technological change has been the subject of fascination for investors, educators, entrepreneurs, and pundits of varying stripes at least as far back as 1965, when Gordon Moore first postulated his now-famous law. As emerging technology continues to build upon itself, the trajectory of change is likely to continue accelerating, and tomorrow’s workforce needs to get a handle now on the critical technical disciplines necessary to thrive in the future. On this episode of If/When, we explored the topic of STEAM education – what it is, why it’s important and how to get more of today’s students involved in it – with three STEAM education advocates from Jacobs: Kara Connon, STEAM Lead for Europe; Lainie Harber, Communications Project Manager; and Samuel Stanford, Structural Engineer, Jacobs Electronics Team.
