All Together Cumbria Increases Local Access to Employment Opportunities

Comprising Jacobs, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure and Sellafield Ltd, All Together Cumbria is helping to provide enhanced skills and career opportunities for local people in Cumbria, U.K.

All Together Cumbria, a community interest company and social enterprise in Cumbria, U.K., has secured the commitment of Sellafield Ltd to use its services as a way of ensuring that all Sellafield Ltd career opportunities are visible and accessible to all. This commitment is part of Sellafield Ltd’s Social Impact program and will enable better access to employment opportunities for the local people both at Sellafield and across the region.

Led by a management committee comprising Jacobs, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure and Sellafield Ltd, All Together Cumbria was formed in 2018 to provide a more effective and efficient approach towards maximising the benefit of current and future employment in the local community. The funds generated through All Together Cumbria are reinvested to provide greater employment opportunities through improved skills development and training.

“Working with key community partnerships and local organizations, All Together Cumbria is an industry-driven solution helping to provide enhanced opportunities for local people within Cumbria through education, retraining and improving skills today and for tomorrow,” said Jacobs Operations Director Derek Waugh. “We work with a range of local businesses that together enhance the delivery capabilities of the U.K. nuclear industry and keep the region at the forefront of the U.K.’s nuclear future.”

“Initiatives such as this will help us to grow the economy of Copeland and West Cumbria, strengthen the Northern Powerhouse and create a more prosperous and vibrant West Cumbria,” said Copeland MP, Trudy Harrison.

On average, Sellafield Ltd and its supply chain recruits approximately 750 roles annually and is now looking to ensure a minimum of 500 roles are recruited through All Together Cumbria within the next 18 months. This includes apprenticeships and graduate roles.

Sellafield Ltd’s commitment enables All Together Cumbria to further enhance its existing skills hub program locally as well as supporting the development of an online platform.

Jacobs is a leader of global lifecycle nuclear services and technology-enabled solutions – providing strategic support to clients’ mission-critical nuclear defense and clean energy priorities, nuclear clean-up and decommissioning, environmental restoration and operational support.
