As technology and innovation rapidly change the landscape for military installations and engineering worldwide, staying ahead of the curve is critical.
Our talented team of dreamers, thinkers and doers deliver mission-driven services to federal, public sector, private sector and defense contractor clients to tackle the challenges facing these organizations today and the ones looming ahead tomorrow.
The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) bi-annual Design Awards celebrates design excellence in the built environment for planned and constructed works globally. SAME acknowledged our architecture, interior and landscape design solutions for advancing global mission readiness.
Jacobs continues to be a trusted partner of SAME for more than 45 years, aligning with its mission to develop multi-disciplined solutions to national security infrastructure challenges.
Designing for the American Military
In 2022, we received the Merit Award in the Unbuilt Category for our work on the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Administration Building at Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB), New Mexico.
The award-winning design features a new 77,110 square foot facility that will consolidate all divisions into a single, three-story, energy-efficient facility with administrative, storage, lab and meeting spaces. The new building will accommodate 250 people and provide hoteling spaces for temporary workers, two large meeting rooms and shared conference rooms. This dynamic new facility design fully embraces the architectural compatibility plan for KAFB. It applies it to a “modern” working environment, allowing for maximum daylight in offices and work locations while keeping spaces secure – one of the primary goals for the facility.
“We approach our work with the client’s vision in mind and we understand that we’re responsible for helping solve their most important challenges. These recognitions from SAME reflect our outstanding reputation in government design and our commitment to delivering solutions to meet those challenges in innovative and resilient ways for a more connected, secure tomorrow.”
During the inaugural awards program, we received three SAME Design Awards in the following categories.
- The Planning, Design, and Studies Merit Award for our work at the Cyber Engineering Academic Center, United States Military Academy West Point, New York
- The Built Project Merit Award for our work at the F-35 Centralized Engine Repair Facility, Naval Air Station Lemoore, California
- The Built Project Merit Award for our work at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia

F-35C Centralized Engine Repair Facility & Pilot Fit Facility
Naval Air Station Lemoore wasn’t a place that stood out for its architecture. Located in California's Central Valley, this base has far more notoriety as the U.S. Navy's largest strike fighter base and home of the first operational F-35C squadron. The most advanced fighter jets in the world live here, along with all the pilots and maintainers that fly and support them. Partnering with Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest (NAVFAC Southwest,) Jacobs provided design, engineering and landscape architecture services to help the facility take flight.
