Environment Analyst’s Sustainability Delivery Awards recognize ESG innovation, achievement and leadership and celebrate those organizations who have made significant advances in progressing toward a sustainable transformation and achieving climate and net zero goals.

Jacobs received accolades under the following categories:

  • Creating Resilient & Sustainable Communities: for a project that has delivered lasting social benefits and environmental justice to a community in need. Jacobs and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning were recognized for working with diverse and marginalized communities across Chicagoland to achieve equitable outcomes through the Local Technical Assistance & Capital Improvement Planning program.
    • The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is the regional planning organization for northeastern Illinois. CMAP has partnered with Jacobs since 2021 to assist low-capacity communities across the metropolitan area to improve their capital planning processes to be more climate resilient and equitable.
    • CMAP and its partners have developed ON TO 2050, a comprehensive plan to help the seven counties and 284 municipalities of northeastern Illinois implement strategies that guide transportation investments and provides recommendations on development, environment, economy and other issues affecting quality of life. As part of the project, the team expanded municipal staff capacity and social capital through training on long-range planning. This included how to meaningfully engage with diverse and marginalized communities; and create a blueprint for developing resilient and sustainable community infrastructure.
  • Transportation Project of the Year: celebrating the transport delivery body or asset owner that has integrated ESG objectives from the outset and delivered exemplary net zero and sustainability goals as part of an ambition to improve connectivity to its customers and users. Jacobs was recognized as part of a wider collaboration implementing decarbonization of the transportation sector through an inductive charging technology for the use of electrified roadways in Detroit.
    • Jacobs worked with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), Electreon, The Michigan Office of Future Mobility and Electrification, the City of Detroit, Michigan Central and NextEnergy.
    • This is the first electrified public road in the U.S. and Electreon’s wireless inductive charging technology was named by Time Magazine as “one of the world's top 100 inventions for 2021.”
  • Transformational Partnership: for successful client-consultant partnerships who in collaborating effectively are delivering significant value and impact and accelerating positive change. Jacobs  was recognized as part of a collaborative team led by the client, the Environment Agency, alongside other consultants- Arup, JBA Consulting and AtkinsRealis- and contractors- BAM Nuttall, Jackson Civil Engineering, Kier and VolkerStevin, for accelerating positive change regionally and nationally to respond to flooding events in England.
    • The Collaborative Delivery Framework (CDF) is part of the Environment Agency’s Next Generation Supplier Arrangements suite of contracts underpinning a £5.2 billion ($6.5 billion) between 2021 and 2027 to better protect hundreds of thousands of properties and businesses from flooding and coastal erosion.
    • The CDF spans eight years (2019-2027), with the longevity helping to build long-term relationships, leading to more collaborative behaviors, strengthening the client/consultant/contractor partnerships and ultimately leading to better outcomes. The client and delivery partners are jointly incentivized against agreed key performance indicators, and there has been a joint investment in framework cultural alignment and behaviors.

“The global demand for smart, sustainable solutions across environmental challenges is one of the biggest issues of our time,” says Jacobs Global Market Director Environmental Solutions, Bruce Chalmers. “Receiving these awards is a testament to Jacobs’ leadership and efforts to integrate sustainable solutions across all our sectors and public and private client portfolios.”
