Jacobs has been awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Patron’s Award in the U.K., recognizing our 29th consecutive Gold Health and Safety Award.
The RoSPA Health and Safety Awards is the largest occupational health and safety awards program in the U.K. Running for nearly 70 years, the awards have almost 2,000 entries each year, covering nearly 50 countries and over seven million employees. The program recognizes organizations’ commitment to continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work, looking at entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
“At Jacobs, protection of the health and safety of our people, clients and impacted communities runs through the core of everything that we do” says Jacobs Head of Health, Safety & Environment, Europe Sukhy Hogwood. “This achievement highlights our culture of care and our dedication to ensuring that our people get home safe and well at the end of every working day.”
“Accidents at work and work-related ill health don’t just have huge financial implications or cause major disruption – they significantly impact an individual’s quality of life,” adds RoSPA’s Achievements Director Julia Small. “That’s why good safety performance deserves to be recognized and rewarded.”
“We are thrilled that Jacobs has won a RoSPA Award and would like to congratulate them on showing an unwavering commitment to keeping their employees, clients and customers safe from accidental harm and injury.”
BeyondZero® is our approach to the health, safety and the security of our people, the protection of the environment and the resilience of Jacobs. Our goal is beyond driving statistics to zero. We are committed to continuously striving for better outcomes and to never be complacent.
We use innovative approaches to manage risk like the use of Jacobs’ Virtual Event Space, where we create personalized and globally accessible events to connect clients and projects to their stakeholders in an online and rich, interactive experience, while eliminating the risk to health, safety and the environment associated with traditional events.
Our safety in design program, de5ign, takes us beyond base legislative requirements and provides a consistent approach to safety in design across our global business. BeyondZero by definition, de5ign aims to go beyond the accepted to create high value, safer and healthier solutions for a more connected sustainable world. While our BeyondZero journey started with safety, as we continued to reduce our injury rates, we also expanded our thinking to our broader culture of caring and particularly mental health.
Our One Million Lives free mental health check-in tool enables users to record and monitor their mental state and access strategies and resources for mental health development. By regularly checking-in with the web-based app, users can spot early indicators of mental health challenges and are better equipped to make positive changes and seek support.
We’re also working with the charity R;pple in support of suicide prevention. The charity provides a browser plug-in that prompts an automatic pop-up when someone searches topics related to self-harm or suicide on the internet. Before the person is directed to the search results, R;pple displays a message of hope followed by a selection of mental health charities available for free, 24/7 support.
We’ve come a long way in our health and safety journey, and we’re committed to continuing to develop, to ensure that Jacobs is a safe space where our people and impacted communities can thrive.
