Why I Wear the “J” with Sulayman Farooqi
Graduate Mechanical Engineer Sulayman Farooqi shares how Jacobs' inclusive leadership motivates and inspires him
Our culture is what makes working at Jacobs special.
There are three integral places where our shared attitudes and behaviors show up – the company’s values and practices, your team and network, and your experience day to day. Glasgow-based Graduate Mechanical Engineer Sulayman Farooqi opens up about what our culture means to him.
How long have you been at Jacobs?
I joined Jacobs in September 2023, and I recently started my second year of the graduate development program.
Why do you wear the “J?”
Being a part of Jacobs and wearing the “J” is an absolute honor and privilege. It means being part of a global family of world changers where everyone cares for each other.
Since I was young, I've wanted to join a global organization that impacts the lives of many. I'm grateful to be part of Jacobs because it's a company that cares about the future of humanity. The differences we’re making around the world and the bright future ahead makes me incredibly excited to be part of Jacobs.
What does our culture mean to you?
The culture at Jacobs is one of inclusivity – where your background, skin color or religion doesn't define your potential to make a difference. As someone from an ethnic minority, this aspect particularly inspires and motivates me. It's empowering to know I know I can contribute meaningfully here.
I'm moved by the passion with which our leadership, like Bob Pragada, speaks about our culture. It's a genuine commitment that inspires me to be the best version of myself – both professionally and personally.
How do you practice our culture of caring every day?
Living our culture of caring is a daily commitment for me. Whether I'm interacting with colleagues, clients, family or friends, I strive to embody the values Jacobs represents – kindness, compassion, and genuine care for others.
Working at Jacobs has empowered me to reach out, build connections and be a source of positivity wherever I go.
“What's beautiful about Jacobs is that everyone, regardless of their role, has the opportunity to make a difference. ”
