Meet Nick Chen

Nick Chen has devoted his 35-year career to the design and construction of underground facilities. 

He is skilled in risk assessment and value engineering processes and is known to the U.S. underground industry for his excellence in innovative cost-saving construction methodologies for tunnels, shafts, and caverns. 

He has developed a unique capability to pinpoint anticipated ground-support-machine interaction phenomena during the design phase to avoid potential constructability issues in the field, minimizing potential schedule delays and confirming the designed facilities are constructible and biddable. 

For TxDOT’s Mobility35 GEC project, he served as tunnel consultant for the systems engineering and tunnel fire/life/safety for the main tunnel and the alignment and geotechnical service of a drainage tunnel. For MTA’s GEC project, he evaluated blasting effects and provided hardening methods for tunnels.
