Brush Creek Park and Ride

Reducing traffic and focusing on the environment in Aspen

Brush Creek

Each year, millions of people visit the mountain town of Aspen, Colorado to ski their famous mountain, stay at their luxury resorts and embrace the beautiful natural landscape. However, the booming tourism industry has come at a cost, burdening the city’s limited highway and parking capacity.

Jacobs is leading the design and construction of an effort to address this escalating issue by improving and expanding the existing bus transfer facility and parking lot.

With the new Brush Creek Park and Ride, more locals and visitors will be encouraged to take public transit to and from Aspen instead of using vehicles – helping reduce traffic and the impact on the environment.

“We are very excited to contribute to Pitkin County’s goal of providing world-class service to both its guests and residents. That objective allowed us to pursue an innovative and highly sustainable design concept. Further, by weaving the existing Aspen Mass bike trail through this facility, we were able to emphasize an alternate means of travel.”

Keeping Aspen on the move

Jacobs is providing design and construction services for the Brush Creek Park and Ride, expanding and improving the existing Brush Creek Transit Center. Located at the intersection of Colorado Highway 82 and Brush Creek Road, the facility is approximately six miles north of Aspen, Colorado.

The new and improved Brush Creek Park and Ride would expand the parking area with additional lighting for safety as well as landscaping for beautification. It will construct restrooms, an information kiosk, and an electric vehicle charging station. With these efforts, locals and visitors can mitigate traffic while reducing their carbon footprint.

The existing facility had a variety of perceived issues that the new design targets including parking lot overflow, inadequate lighting at night, and the presence of portable restrooms.

The project plans to expand the parking area by constructing 200 additional lighted and landscaped parking spaces. The parking lot will utilize LED technology to achieve energy efficiency and reduce light trespass that providing adequate safety. The Comfort Station will include men's and women’s restrooms serviced by a new well and septic system. An information kiosk is being constructed for the City of Aspen and we’ll be providing electric service improvements for an electric vehicle charging station.

These new measures will further incentivize locals and visitors of Aspen to take public transit to and from the city and slopes in lieu of driving vehicles, reducing traffic in Aspen and the carbon footprint from vehicles.

The project is scheduled to be completed by end of October 2021.
