Miami Beach Monorail

Moving passengers quicker between core amenities in Miami Beach, with an integrated transit solution

The Miami Beach Monorail project consisted of a multi-phase study evaluating a transit connection for the developer Resorts World Miami15-acre parcel on Biscayne Bay in Miami along I-395 / MacArthur Causeway to Miami Beach. The solution that identified in the feasibility phase used monorail technology on a 3.5-mile elevated guideway travels along the southern shoulder of MacArthur Causeway, adjacent to Government Cut, providing an unobstructed view the Port of Miami, the busiest cruise terminal in the world.

The final design concept consisted of a combined new MetroMover and Monorail Station in Miami, a vehicle maintenance and storage facility on Watson Island with the ability to build a future station on Watson Island to serve the Miami Childrens Museum, Parrot Jungle, Miami Seaplane Base, two marinas, and future hotel development on the island. Two additional stations were located along 5th Street in Miami Beach. The Miami Beach Transit Center Station, located at Lenox Avenue, includes accommodations for buses, rideshare, and trolleys. The Washington Avenue Station, between Washington and Collins Avenue, provided a one-block walk to Ocean Drive and famous Miami Beach. The integrated transit solution provided a 5-minute trip across the causeway and the capacity for 3,600 passengers per hour.
