The Scotland 5G Centre

Unlocking Scotland’s 5G potential to accelerate innovation, empowering growth for businesses and communities.

Scotland at night

The potential of 5G extends far beyond faster download speeds. It represents a seismic shift in how we connect, communicate, create value and contribute to making the world more intelligent.

5G holds huge possibilities for Scotland. It’s estimated that by enhancing the provision of 5G infrastructure and catalyzing the creation of commercially viable use-cases, Scotland has the potential to add £17 billion ($22 billion) to Gross Domestic Product by 2035, create 160,000 new jobs and increase productivity by £1,600 ($2,000) per worker. 5G could play a part in creating 3,000 new businesses and a £3.3 billion ($4.2 billion) growth in export volumes.

The Scotland 5G Centre is Scotland's national centre for accelerating the deployment and adoption of 5G connectivity across Scotland's Industry and Public Sectors. The Centre, funded by the Scottish Government, operates at the intersection of industry, technology, and academia, allowing the team to work collaboratively and support the delivery of advanced communications solutions, future proofed to unlock Scotland’s digital potential.

The Centre provides opportunities for businesses to collaborate with experts in 5G arena, offers access to private 5G testbed facilities, enabling the proof of concept for 5G solutions that could significantly boost the success of businesses and give Scottish enterprises a competitive edge.

We provide consulting and advisory services, guiding businesses through the benefits and complexities of adopting advanced technology solutions enabled by connectivity. Our focus on data solutions resonates with the essence of 5G which is transmitting larger amounts of data with improved latency and resilience. This allows businesses to adopt a data driven approach to their operations. This commitment to a data-driven approach ties in with our climate response - by enabling data-driven operation, businesses can optimize their use of resources to significantly reduce their carbon footprint.

We’ve worked with businesses in a diverse range of sectors including transportation, energy, health & social care, aquaculture, education and whisky production, to discover the untapped potential that embracing 5G technology holds for them.

Scotland’s 5G journey isn’t just about technology; it’s about shaping a better future for all.
